Walla Walla is the best sweet onion for northern gardeners. It produces a colossal yellow-skinned, globe-shaped bulb with sweet white flesh. Delicious sliced and eaten raw. A hardy, easy to grow long day variety.
- 250 seeds minimum
- Germination: 10-21 days
- Maturity: 110 days from transplant
- Direct sow ¼” deep in full sun as soon as soil can be worked. In northern climates, start indoors 10-12 weeks before last frost date. Plant multiple seeds into each container. Harden off seedlings before planting.
- Plant 2 seeds per inch in rows 12-18” apart. Thin to 4-6” apart for larger onions. To transplant, separate young plants and set 4-6” apart.
