This rare black-seeded heirloom was grown by Thomas Jefferson at Monticello. Small, loose heads measure 6-8” in diameter. Buttery, tender leaves are excellent in spring and summer salads. Each little head is a perfect serving size. Delicious with diced fresh herbs and lighter vinaigrettes.
- 250 seeds minimum
- Germination: 5-10 days
- Maturity: 45-50 days
- Direct sow 1/8-1/4" deep in full sun as soon as soil can be worked.
- Sow seeds thinly in rows 12” apart; thin to 8-10” space between plants.
- Plant every 2-3 weeks for ongoing harvest.
