Named for Wethersfield, Connecticut, where this lush red onion was popularized during the colonial period. These large, slightly flattened bulbs are fragrant and delectable raw, roasted, and simmered into your favorite recipes.
- 250 seeds minimum
- Germination: 10-21 days
- Maturity: 110-125 days from transplant
- Direct sow ¼” deep in full sun as soon as soil can be worked. In northern climates, start indoors 8 weeks before last frost date. Plant multiple seeds into each container. Harden off seedlings before planting.
- Plant 2 seeds per inch in rows 12-18” apart. Thin to 4-6” apart for larger onions. To transplant, separate young plants and set 4-6” apart.
