How to Plant Onions
In raised beds, anchor onion plants approximately one inch deep and 5 inches apart. If you wish to harvest green onions for salads or other dishes, plant onions three inches apart. Pull every other plant for green onions leaving the others five to six inches apart to mature.

Onion Plant Fertilizing and Growing Care
Incorporate a balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 10-20-10 into soil at planting. About a month after planting, feed with 21-0-0 Ammonium Sulphate onion fertilizer at a rate of 1 cup per 20 feet. Repeat this process every 3 to 4 weeks. Always water immediately after feeding. As plants reach maturity, soil can be allowed to dry. If possible, avoid watering within two weeks of expected harvest time to increase storage life.

Onion Harvesting and Storage
When plant tops fall over, your onions have reached maturity. Harvest onions and allow them to dry. Cut off onion tops after drying and trim the roots. To preserve onions, store in a dry, cool place, spacing so bulbs do not touch.
