This Halloween favorite was developed by John Howden of Massachusetts in the 1970s. Averaging 25 lbs., Howden Pumpkins have strong, sturdy handles and a deep orange hue. Produces high yields of rounded, symmetrical fruit with extra-thick flesh.
- 15 seeds minimum
- Germination: 5-10 days
- Maturity: 115 days
- Direct sow ½-1” deep in full sun after last frost date when soil is at least 70F or start indoors 3-4 weeks before planting.
- Plant 4 seeds per hill; space hills 6’ apart
- Pumpkins should not be planted in soil where melons or cucumbers were recently grown.
