This statuesque Bavarian variety is our favorite early season leek. Mature stalks reach 24” tall but we love to harvest Alto early to brighten and flavor our spring salads. Best planted as a spring crop, not a winter hardy variety.
- 100 seeds minimum
- Germination: 5-10 days
- Maturity: 90-120 days from transplant
- Direct sow 1/8” deep in full sun as soon as soil can be worked. In northern climates, start indoors 8 weeks before last frost date. Plant multiple seeds into each container. Harden off seedlings before planting.
- Plant 2 per inch in rows 12-18” apart. To transplant, separate young plants and set 4-6” apart.
