High in astringent tannins and salicylic acid, this lovely European wildflower is celebrated for its medicinal properties. Young plants form a mound of ferny leaves and bear scads of aromatic flowers beginning in their second year. Also known as queen of the meadow or mead wort. Mature plants reach 3-6’ tall.
- 100 seeds minimum
- Germination: 30-45 days (slow to germinate)
- Start in doors 6-8 weeks prior to last frost. Press scattered seeds gently into seed starting media and lightly cover. Consistently moist (not soggy) soil and cooler temperatures are required for successful germination; spray bottle works well. As seedlings appear, gradually expose to direct light. When large enough to handle, transfer to pots. Gradually harden and transplant after last frost. Prefers partial sun and moist soil.
