- Seeds are dormant and require cold stratification. Direct sow in fall, covering seeds lightly with well-drained soil. Sow in a sunny location and keep evenly moist. For spring planting, combine seeds with moist sand and refrigerate for 60-90 days. Plant cold stratified seeds in small pots or in garden after last frost when temperatures reach 70°F. Move seedlings from pots to garden when sturdy enough for handling.
