Named for its black-green, bruise-resistant rind, this heirloom watermelon averages weights of 35 to 50 lbs. Fruits have bright, cherry-red flesh, and require long, warm growing seasons to fully mature.
- 25 seeds minimum
- Germination: 5-10 days
- Maturity: 90 days
- Direct sow ½-1” deep in full sun after last frost or start indoors 3-4 weeks prior to last frost. Harden off seedlings before planting. Watermelon seedlings prefer not to be disturbed; direct sow is suggested.
- Sow seeds 6” apart. Space plants 18” apart in rows 6-8’ apart.
