This delicious leek is loved by gardeners from coast to coast. Reaching 15-20” tall, American Flag is sweet, mild, and easy to grow. Great raw, grilled, and cooked.
- 250 seeds minimum
- Germination: 5-10 days
- Maturity: 90-120 days from transplant
- Direct sow 1/8” deep in full sun as soon as soil can be worked. In northern climates, start indoors 8 weeks before last frost date. Plant multiple seeds into each container. Harden off seedlings before planting.
- Plant 2 per inch in rows 12-18” apart. To transplant, separate young plants and set 4-6” apart.

American Flag Leeks
Last year was my first time planting leeks. One packet covered a 25 ft row. I started them indoors and wasn't gentle in transplanting, but they were very hardy. It's now January and I've been cracking through the frozen ground and pulling these out. Their creamy, mild onion flavor is delicious!
