Also known as Mormon Tea or Desert Tea, this flowering, semi-evergreen shrub is native to the North American Southwest. Known for its natural medicinal properties and commonly used as a coffee alternative. Does not contain ephedrine. Challenging to grow; requires attention and patience. Prefers dry, alkaline soil.
- 30 seeds minimum
- Seeds are dormant and do not germinate readily. Some seeds may germinate in 14-28 days, others may not germinate first year.
- Bloom time: March-May
- In the fall, scarify seeds and soak overnight. Press seeds into containers filled with light weight seed starting mix. Water and drain. Plant containers in sunny garden location, digging them halfway into soil. Cover with loose mulch and monitor for germination. Remove mulch when germination begins. "Pot up" as plants mature or transplant to permanent location when seedlings are sturdy.
